EAST HAMPSTEAD, N.H. — Mrs. Claire J. (Mattinson) Herrick, 92, of East Hampstead and a former longtime resident of Plaistow, N.H., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont.
Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Clarence and Edith (Angus) Mattinson, she was raised in Groveland and attended Groveland Elementary and High School. Employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co as a young woman, she was primarily a housewife and homemaker.
A former longtime resident of Sweet Hill Road in Plaistow, Mrs. Herrick assisted her late husband Stanley Herrick, who served for several years as the Plaistow tax collector. She enjoyed reading, knitting and painting in oils, and trips to the mountains and the beach. She was especially devoted to her loving family.
She is survived by twin sons, David A. Herrick and his wife Martha of Auburn, N.H., and Dennis A. Herrick of East Hampstead; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia E. and David Simard of Plaistow; two sisters, Edith Brenton of Plaistow and Priscilla Fitzgerald of Atkinson; three grandchildren, David Simard, Christopher Simard and his wife Christine and Jennifer Herrick and her companion Craig D'Amelio.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private calling hours and services will be held at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the NHSPCA, 104 Portsmouth Ave., Stratham, N.H.
