David C. Baker Sr., 77, died on April 23, 2010, at the Exeter Healthcare. He was born on January 25, 1933 in Exeter, the son of the late Clifton L. and Jeannette (Rheaume) Baker.
A lifelong resident of Raymond, David was a standout baseball player at Raymond High School where he graduated from in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was employed for many years at Harmon Shoe Company in Raymond. He was also formerly employed as a salesman for Sid Harvey of N.E., Inc. in Manchester.
David was very active in the town of Raymond, serving as a Lieutenant in the Raymond Volunteer Fire Department for thirty years. He was also a member of the Raymond Historical Society, and President of the Raymond Cemetery Committee.
He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed bowling, and was a skilled woodcrafter. A loving husband and devoted father David’s greatest joy in life came from the time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary C. (Groetz) Baker of Raymond; his daughter Kathleen M. (Baker) Crummey of Deerfield; two sons, David C. Baker Jr., of Raymond, and Lawrence J. Baker of Bath; one sister, Carolyn Baker Cottrell of Raymond; six grandchildren; Stephanie, Michael, Jennifer, Samantha, Willow, and Logan; a great grandson, Shayne; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gail Baker Edwards who died on January 26, 2008.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., Raymond, NH.
Funeral services with Military Honors were held on April 28, at Brewitt Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in the Old Pine Grove Cemetery at a later date.
