Debbie Gianakakis Dowling, age 57, passed away on Monday morning, September 19, 2016, while in the comfort of her home in Danville, N.H., with love and support ever present by her side.
Born in Hilo, Hawaii on January 19, 1959, Debbie was the daughter of Harry Richard Dowling and the late Elaine (Crave) Dowling.
Much of her childhood was spent relocating with her family throughout the country. In 1980 Debbie settled in Ipswich, Mass., where she married. Eager, excited, and wanting to learn, she helped hand build their very first home. For the first time in her life, Debbie had stability for herself and finally a place to call home. At that same time, she and her husband started G & G Enterprise as a commodities transportation company. Together they created a successful and enjoyable career which required constant, physical hard work and dedication. Ten years later and expecting her first child, Debbie moved to Kingston, N.H., where she raised two children and started the next phase of her life.
Constantly traveling between motocross tracks and soccer fields, Debbie could not have been happier. She never missed an event. Her hands on approach combined with a need to learn served her family well and enabled Debbie to help guide her children to grow their skills and succeed.
Changes in Debbie’s life created a new sense of purpose and an opportunity for personal growth. In 2015 she started her own transportation business, enthusiastically named GRENIC TRANS, after her children, Greg and Nicole. She enjoyed working independently and also found herself routinely working alongside of her son. She enjoyed how they helped each other along the way, making light work for both. As always, she continued to make every opportunity a teaching moment. She continued her career as an owner operator/sole proprietor until illness made the demands of her business too difficult to continue.
Debbie’s life passions were her family and all children. She loved every opportunity to help little ones grow.
What brought her joy was watching sunrises and sunsets, ocean fishing, walking trails, camping, tending camp fires, cooking, dancing, gardening, birdwatching, building, driving, skiing, snowmobiling and motorcycling. Her favorite color was blue. What brought her the most joy and peace was the sound of laughter coming from her son and watching her daughter graduate college. Appropriately, her favorite song was “Long as I can see the light."
She leaves behind her beloved children, Gregory C. Gianakakis of Kingston, N.H., and Nicole L. Gianakakis and fiance, Troy Coleman of Seabrook, N.H.; two brothers, Garry Dowling of Exeter, N.H. and Mike Dowling of Las Vegas, Nev.; her loving companion, Thomas H. Mahoney of Danville, N.H.; Gregory N. Gianakakis of Kingston, N.H.; along with several nieces and nephews; many extended family members; and many dear friends, all of whom loved her dearly. She was predeceased by a brother, Harry Richard Dowling, Jr.
An immediate family only graveside service will be scheduled at Highland Cemetery in Ipswich, Mass.
Donations in her memory may be made to the DHMC, Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03766. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
