Laurel, MD — Gertrude F. (Trudy) Leland, 75, passed away at her residence in Laurel, Md., on July 28, 2013, after several years of declining health.
Born on June 29, 1938, in Amherst, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Walter C. Markert and Frances E. (Emery) Markert. She attended Amherst schools, and graduated from IBM Technical Programming School, and worked for Combustion Engineering as a computer programmer until her marriage in 1965. She later resumed work as a programmer with Digital Equipment Corporation, retiring in 1998.
A longtime resident of East Hampstead, N.H., she subsequently resided in Gaithersburg, Md., Woodbridge, Va., and Laurel, Md.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Arthur L. Leland, who passed away on July 3, 2013. She is survived by a son, William H. Leland of Vernon, Conn.; daughters, Karen J. Leland-St. Onge and husband, Edward, of East Hartford, Conn., and Wendy E. Sauvageot and husband, Scott, of Laurel; and a brother, Walter C. Markert Jr. and wife, Karen, of Ballston Lake, N.Y.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, October 12, at North Cemetery, Worthington, Mass. Memorials may be made to Gilchrist Hospice Care, 5537 Twin Knolls Road, Suite 434, Columbia, MD 21045.
