Gordon P. Brown

ATKINSON, N.H. — Gordon P. Brown, 90, a prominent New Hampshire Realtor, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 surrounded by his family. Mr. Brown was the partner of Nancy Hofmann, the husband of the late Merle J. Brown, to whom he was married for 44 years, and the late Edith Brown.

Born in Haverhill on Oct. 14, 1920, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Haydn L. and Mary A. (Page) Brown. He graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1938, and continued his education graduating from MIT in 1943 with both his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He had worked as a Mechanical Engineer for National Research, Alco Products, and Process Engineering. In 1967 he, and his wife Merle, founded the Gordon Browns Real Estate firm which he continued until 1988 when it was purchased by his daughter Barbara A. Brown. Mr. Brown was a founding member of the Rockingham Board of Realtors and the Mutual Listing Service. His dedicated and loyal service was recognized in 1975 when he was acknowledged as Realtor of the Year.

He was a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church, and a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He found great enjoyment following the stock market in the years following his retirement. He also found great contentment driving his tractor while maintaining the family farm.

Besides his partner Nancy Hofmann, Mr. Brown is survived by his children, G. Page Brown Jr. and his wife Mary of Venice, Fla., Jane E. Sheeran and her husband David of Ashuelot, N.H., Barbara A. Brown and her husband Rex E. Miller of East Hampstead, N.H.; grandchildren, Courtney M. Brown, Andrew O. Sheeran, Brandy J. Speno; great-grandchildren, Aliza and Kayli Speno; sister, Marion E. Lang and her husband Malcolm C. of North Branford, Conn.; and niece, Deborah Lang of New York City.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to attend the funeral Saturday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m., at the Atkinson Congregational Church. Interment at Atkinson Cemetery.
