John's Story

EAST KINGSTON, N.H. — John O. S. Mills, 52, passed away very peacefully, with his longtime companion, Maureen Benjamin, at his side on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011.

He was born in Derry, N.H., on Nov. 28, 1958 and spent his first 15 years living in Hampstead, N.H. There he attended the Hampstead Congregational Church, played Little League and was very involved in the Scouting Program. In 1970 he moved to Wolfeboro, N.H., with his family and attended Kingswood Regional High School. After going there for a few years he attended and graduated from Berwick Academy in Berwick, Maine. There he was an avid sports fan, involved in ice hockey and golf and fishing. Following his high school graduation he went on to Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I., and majored in Culinary Arts.

John worked as a salesman at two Ford Dealerships in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and had earned the designation of Ford Master Salesman early in his career. John was also very proud to be a writer for Phil Hartman on NBC's Saturday Night Live and was also cast as an extra for the movie The Perfect Storm. John was a member of the New Hampshire Lobster Fisherman's Association. He enjoyed both salt water and fresh water fishing, especially Lake Winnipesaukee and Martha's Vineyard. He always enjoyed cooking and gardening and was an avid New England sports team fan.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Maureen Benjamin of Amesbury and her family; his mother, Barbara H. Elkinton and her husband Tom of Wolfeboro; several cousins and close friends. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Grover Mills formerly of Winchester and Hampstead; his paternal grandparents, Stark and Leta Mills of Hampstead and Wolfeboro; and his maternal grandparents, Otis and Bunny Hammett of Buzzards Bay.

ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead, in the spring. Donations in John's memory may be made to Back Bay Youth Hockey Association, P.O. Box 1577, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Lord Funeral Home, Wolfeboro, is in charge of arrangements.
