Karen Rose (Apelian) Born, formerly Karen Ghioldi, 68, a resident of Sandown for the past 10 years and formerly of Waltham, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
Raised in Belmont, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Albert and Mrs. Zabelle (Arakelian) Apelian. A Waltham resident for much of her life, she graduated from Vespa George Art School in Boston, and was a preschool teacher in Waltham for 27 years before retiring. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading mysteries and painting ceramics, and loved cats. She is remembered as a devoted, loving and supportive mother who was always there for her two daughters and their families.
She is survived by her husband, James R. Born of Sandown; daughters, Gina Ghioldi-Varley and husband Patrick of Acton, Mass., and Diana Ezzell and husband Jeffrey of Pomfret, Conn.; five beloved grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Rose Varley, and Julia, Matthew and Cameron Ezzell; a sister, Irene Hamjian of South Chatham; step-children, Kellera Born, Giles Born and wife Danielle, and Maren Boyle; and many dear nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Laura Donaldson.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, March 26 at noon at the South Acton Congregational Church, 35 School St., Acton, with Rev. Katrina Wuensch officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
