Michael J.'s Story
Formerly of Lynn, Mass., Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy illness. Mike leaves the love of his life, Paula (Krager) Watson, his parents, Donald B. Watson, Sr. and Jeanne A. (Niekrasz) Watson of Lynn and his siblings, Diane, Pam, Tom and DJ, and their spouses. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and step children. He was preceded in death by his brother John. Mike attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn Tech in 1984.
He worked as a sheet metal worker at Pro Fab in Lynn until he became so ill he needed a heart transplant at age 29. He waited in MGH for three months for a donor heart. God answered our prayers and he received his new heart in 1997. Mike recovered enough to return to work and did so until his illness forced him to retire at age 42. We wish to thank the MGH Cardiac transplant staff for all of the care and kindness they gave Mike, and the donor family who's generous donation gave Mike 20 years he would not have had otherwise.
Mike was kind, funny, and hardworking. He loved his Boston sports teams, fishing and reading. He will be sorely missed.
As per Mike's wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. Instead, a Celebration of Mike's life will be held at the Sandown Town Hall, 320 Main St., Sandown, N.H., on Saturday, October 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. All friends and family are invited to come and share memories of Mike. In lieu of flowers, Mike requested any donations be sent to the New England Organ Bank (neob.org).
