Nancy's Story

Nancy passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Burlington, Vt. from complications related to lung cancer.
Nancy was born to Joyce Taylor and Ray Woodworth in Hart, Mich. on the 8th of July 1947. She had two siblings, Marlene and Marvin. Nancy graduated from Walkerville High School in 1965. Shortly after she married Jack Upperman, they had two children, Susan and Jody.
Nancy completed her LPN from Grand Valley State University and worked primarily with elderly in nursing homes in the Midwest and Northeast. She was awarded a full scholarship to St. John’s in Annapolis graduating with a BA in Liberal Arts in 1990. She furthered her education with a scholarship to Indiana University completing a MS and CAGS in Clinical Counseling. In her second career she was a psychotherapist working with children and adults in several states, including, MI, IN, and NH.
Nancy was predeceased by her mother, father, sister, and brother. She is survived by her two children, Susan Crump of Hampstead, N.H. and Jody Upperman of Baltimore, Md.; her son-in-law, Terry Crump; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Ellie) and Richard (Richie) Crump, her Aunt, Sally Kirwin, and several nieces and nephews including Marva Bower, Sonya Mclellan-Clemmens, David Mclellan, Bud Woodworth and Shawn Woodworth. She also leaves behind her close friends, Becky Lapadulla and Micah Cardinal, as well as, many other friends and family with whom she loved and shared her life. She loved her animals and co-parented her Cocker Spaniel Cody, and her two cats, Kitza and Peek-a-Boo.
Nancy was an amazing woman. She “could make anything with her hands” and fix most things too. She made beautiful pottery that is cherished by all. She knitted and crocheted, made doilies and even did needlepoint. Nancy loved to draw the world around her, especially animals. She loved to be outside gardening, walking, and kayaking. Nancy will be remembered for her love of life, curiosity, compassion and generosity. She was was a “spitfire” who never gave up and lived each day to the fullest. She adored her children and grandchildren. She was always thinking of them and loved to spend time with them. She was a loving and loyal Mom, friend, sister, aunt and cousin. She is missed, but will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on June 26, 2 to 6 p.m. at Atkinson Country Club, Atkinson, N.H.
