Patricia M. “Mickey” (McDonnell) Scheidegger, age 81, of Haverhill, MA, formerly of West Newbury, MA, died Mon., May 24, 2010, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA.
She was the loving wife of the late Alden L. “Shagg” Scheidegger, who died March 22, 1999.
Born in Vail, Iowa, April 27, 1929,, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Patrick and Katherine (Freml) McDonnell and was a graduate of Denison High School in Denison, Iowa, and went on to receive her nursing degree from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing which became affiliated with Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
She was a school nurse for Boystown and also for the Page School in West Newbury. She was active with the Red Cross and was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Parish in West Newbury, where she served as Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Religious Education Committee. She was also involved with child abuse prevention along with several other charities.
Her message to everyone is to celebrate life.
Dedicated to her family and to her faith, she raised nine children, nurturing them with love, understanding and faith. Due to her strength of will and painful honesty, her opinion was well respected. The family will all look to her as an example of how to live their lives and, though they may stumble, they will strive to follow in her footsteps. She was a light hearted prankster; Irish to the end.
She was the proud mother of seven sons and two daughters, David W. Scheidegger, who died in January, 1991; Joseph B. Scheidegger and wife Thea Bendix of Donald, OR; Thomas J. Scheidegger of Griffin, GA; James L. Scheidegger and wife Julie of Coconut Creek, FL; Stephen F. Scheidegger and wife Kim of Newburyport, MA; William G. Scheidegger of Newton; Richard M. Scheidegger and wife Janine of Highlands Ranch, CO, Mary P. Campbell and husband Robert of Methuen, MA, and Gertrude G. “Trudy” Rand of Centennial, CO; twenty-one grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Michael, David, Daniel, Cathleen, Patrick, Matthew, Kristin, Sean, Phoebe, Amelia, Caleb, Owen, Angela, Dominic, Ashley, Jonathan, Jeffery, Cody and Brooke; and several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on May 28, at St. Ann’s Church, West Newbury, MA, followed by interment in Bridge Street Cemetery, West Newbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Abbey of Saint Walburga, 32109 North U. S. Highway 287, Virginia Dale, Co 80536
