Richard Ambrose's Story

Richard Ambrose Heatherton, age 71, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his residence. He was born on August 22, 1944 in Floral Park, N.Y., he was the son of the late Richard Ambrose and Mary (Kelley) Heatherton. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara (Beck) Heatherton.
 Mr. Heatherton was educated on Long Island, N.Y. and graduated from St. John's University in Queens, NY with a Bachelors of Science in business. Following school, he served in the U.S Marine Corps Reserves and then went on to have a career in business. In 1975 he moved to Kingston, N.H. where he lived for 39 years. This is where he raised his family and was active in church and the community. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Frederick, Md. where he enjoyed getting to know a new community and serving at the Frederick Rescue Mission.  Most of all he loved his family and enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He was known to have 200 pounds of love in a 150 pound body.
Mr. Heatherton was the devoted father of Dr. Christopher Ambrose Heatherton and wife Amie of Hampton, N.H. and Keri-Ann Patricia Henson and husband Adam of Frederick, Md., the grandfather of Stella and Leo, the brother of Mary Gonzalez and her late husband, Jose, Catherine D'Amico and her late husband Philip, Raymond Heatherton and wife, Marjorie and Susan Reilly and husband Kevin. He will also be missed by his lifelong friend, Vincent Fitzgerald.
Friends were received on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Heatherton's name to The Frederick Rescue Mission, 419 W.
