Rita's Story

Mrs. Rita F. (McGrath) Kitt died April 8, 2010, at the age of 89. Rita was born in Everett, MA, and was a graduate of Everett High School. Also, as a graduate of Mount Auburn Hospital School of Nursing in Cambridge, MA, she became the operating room supervisor until called to active duty in the Navy Nurse Corps during World War II.

She was the wife of Captain Robert B. Kitt, USN (Retired), for sixty-five years, and mother of their children, Robert B., Jr. of Eden Prairie, MN, and Mrs. Beverly J. Collins of Stamford, CT, and grandmother of five and great grandmother of four.

She is survived by husband, Robert B. Kitt, Sr., Lady Lake, FL; son, Bruce (Debra) Kitt, Eden Prairie, MN; daughter, Becky (Donald) Collins, Stamford, CT; five grandchildren: Briana Kitt, Elizabeth Kitt, Andrew Kitt, Michael (Amy) Collins, and Jennifer (Jeff) Mikels; and four great grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held on April 15, at St. Timothy Catholic Church followed by interment with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
