PLAISTOW, N.H. — Mrs. Ruth E. (Duston) (Warner) Jenne, 87, the longtime Executive Secretary to the Town of Plaistow Board of Selectman and the Town Manager, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
A native and lifelong resident of Plaistow and daughter of the late John M. and Maude B. (Parker) Duston, she graduated Pollard School and Haverhill High School.
The former co-owner of the J. M. Duston Oil Co. from 1961 until 1976, Mrs. Jenne served the Town of Plaistow for over fifty-five years first as the Town Treasurer beginning in 1955 and later as the Secretary to the Town Manager and Board of Selectman.
A woman totally devoted to her family, her church and her town, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plaistow, where she sang in the church choir for many years, and served as Clerk of the Church. She was also a member of the Plaistow Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Liberty Grange of Plaistow, The Plaistow Historical Society and the Plaistow Cemetery Advisory Committee. She was also active on several town committees and celebration events and formerly served as a den mother for the local Cub Scout pack.
Mrs. Jenne was a former recipient of the State Grange Award and was honored by the Town of Plaistow with its dedication of the town report in her name several years ago.
Known affectionately as "Mrs. Plaistow" by many town residents, Mrs, Jenne enjoyed performing as a dancer and singer in the local Christian Organization of Plaistow (C.O.O.P.) and American Legion variety shows. She also enjoyed cake baking and decorating.
The wife of the late John A. Warner, who died in 1939 and the late Charles E. Jenne, who died in 1978, she is survived by a daughter, Nancy J (Warner/Jenne) McCormack of Plaistow, and a daughter, Kathleen A. (Jenne) Giacobbe of Plaistow, with whom she has made her home for the past two years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Mary Ann Jenne of Plaistow, and Douglas E. and Tina Jenne of Burlington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Christine (Duston) (Conant) Moore in 2003 and her son-in-law, John Giacobbe in 2002.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends called on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Man St., Plaistow, N.H. Her funeral took place on Saturday, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 122 Main St. Plaistow. A reception immediately followed in Colcord Hall. A private family burial service will take place at a later date in Plaistow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Plaistow Fire Department, Elm Street, Plaistow, N.H., or to the Music Program of the First Baptist Church, 122 Main St., Plaistow, NH 03865.
