AMESBURY, MA - William "Bill" H. Goodwin Sr. died Tues., August 10, 2010, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA. He died peacefully while surrounded by his family.

He was the beloved husband of June E. (Moore) Touhey Goodwin who predeceased him on December 23, 2004. They had shared 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Boston, MA, on February 21, 1923, he was the son of the late William L. Goodwin and Bella (Haley). Bill grew up in Amesbury, MA, and attended Amesbury schools. Except for a brief period of time in Hampton Falls, he lived in Amesbury his entire life.

He worked for several employers associated with farming but his most notable careers were as a milkman for Riverside Dairy and as a rolling machine operator for the Bailey Corporation. Bill retired from Bailey's in 1985, and enjoyed 25 years of retirement. He was content to stay close to home. He considered himself a farmer and, throughout his life, he enjoyed caring for animals. He especially liked to garden and raise show rabbits.

Bill came from a large family and was predeceased by his parents and by his sisters Helen Inman of Saco, ME, Mildred Towle of Manchester, Florence Chase Cook of Exeter, a brother David Goodwin of Amesbury, MA, and a grandson, Stephen Goodwin, also of Amesbury.

He leaves three sons and their families: William H. Goodwin Jr. and Patt of East Kingston, David A. Touhey (stepson) and Suzanne of Kingston, and Henry W. Goodwin and Laurie of Somersworth. He leaves eight grandchildren: Carl Goodwin, Cynthia Goodwin, William Goodwin, Adam Goodwin, Eric Touhey, Michelle Touhey, Renee Touhey, and Andrea Case. He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Delores Goodwin of Amesbury, MA, and Elizabeth (Moore) Arndt of Las Cruces, NM, and a brother- in- law Frederick Moore of Agawam, MA. Bill had 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bill struggled during the past few years with a variety of ailments but he had a life-long battle with heart disease. It was Bill's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association. His funeral service was held on August 12, from Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, Amesbury, MA. Internment was at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury, MA.
