He worked for several employers associated with farming but his most notable careers were as a milkman for Riverside Dairy and as a rolling machine operator for the Bailey Corporation. Bill retired from Bailey's in 1985, and enjoyed 25 years of retirement. He was content to stay close to home. He considered himself a farmer and, throughout his life, he enjoyed caring for animals. He especially liked to garden and raise show rabbits.

Bill struggled during the past few years with a variety of ailments but he had a life-long battle with heart disease. It was Bill's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association. His funeral service was held on August 12, from Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, Amesbury, MA. Internment was at Mount Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury, MA.
