Miriam C.'s Story
Miriam C. (Ortiz) Johnson, 65, previously of Newton, N.H., died peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2017 in New Port Richey, Florida, after an ongoing battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
She was born on October 7, 1951 in Manhattan, N.Y., to Monserrate (Cardoza) Ortiz and Melanio Ortiz. She was a 1970 graduate of Haverhill High School and was married to Richard Proulx, and Richard Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.
Later in life, Miriam found her calling when she began working at Lazarus House Ministries, in Lawrence, MA, starting as a woman’s advocate for the shelter, teaching preschool, and organizing gifts at Christmas for those less fortunate. Miriam always gave as much as she could to anyone she felt needed more than she.
She is remembered by her daughters, Ona (Ortiz) Johnston and Laura Johnson, her sons, Christopher Proulx, Brian Johnson and Mark Johnson; her sisters, Rosalinda (Ortiz) Jenner and Idena (Ortiz) Price; her step-brother, Richard Greenough, her step-mother, Arlene (Parent) Oritz, her six grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and her many cherished friends.
Calling hours and funeral services will be held on October 7th, 2017 at Mary Mother of the Church in Newton, N.H., beginning at 9 a.m. Family and friends are invited to the home of Laura Johnson, following the services.
